In my history of living abroad I have an episode or even a chapter of living in Denmark, where I spent over 3,5 years. It is the country of rain (it rains almost every second day), citizens that love jogging and riding bicycles and hygge. The word hygge became popular last year thanks to couple of books that help to understand the whole concept of hygge and how to apply it to your home and daily life.
Let's start from the beginning. What does the hygge really mean? The following definition should make it more clear, hygge: ''a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being.” Most of the articles I found say about creating 'hygge home' or 'hygge atmosphere' at your home. I do agree that pretty candles, proper lighting and colorful blankets can make your home more cozy, but I am more interested how a person can be hygge with yourself no matter what kind of home one lives, no matter what is the one's present life situation and how to sustain this cosiness inside yourself and feel always hygge with yourself?
I believe that to feel comfortable and cozy with yourself you need to be real to yourself first. That means to make choices that make you happy, so you are real to yourself as you live your truth not someone else truth. Real means also following what makes you happy, not what is suggested by media and what is marked 'to make you happy'. As an individual you are the only and responsible for your happiness and being hygge with yourself means to live the truth.
